Practice11: The Star Drill
I have found a drill run by a Storm team that can be incorporated into both indoor as well as outdoor use by teams at all age levels. This is called the "Star Drill"

Indoors, you break the players up into equal numbers in each corner of the gym, without gloves and using 2 balls, they start by throwing the ball at the centre circle in the gym ( or a point that is as central as possible), hard enough to bounce to the player opposite them. As soon as the player has thrown the ball, they sprint to the next corner to their right. The player receiving the ball must catch it on one bounce, and then throw it to the player opposite them, again aiming at the centre point in the gym, and throwing it hard enough to get to the receiver on one bounce. The next step would be to introduce an object to aim for at the centre of the gym ( or on the field), and then to move the drill to catching with gloves and throw both grounders and line drives. The object of the drill is to teach players to catch with soft hands,
watch the ball into their hands, and then as they scoop it up, get into position to make an accurate throw. It also helps them with accuracy of the throw, as you start with a fairly easy target, and gradually make it more difficult to hit, then adding in throws from point to point, or from third base to first base. A real benefit is this is a "busy" drill, and so all players are involved and moving all the time.

Lots of fun, lots of activity and a great way to get the muscles working and the players attention.
